The Wallberg cable car in Rottach-Egern looks back over a history that spans more than 50 years. Ever since it went into operation in 1951, it has taken well over 13 million guests up and down the mountain. Once known - and loved - only for its fast-paced sledding run, Wallberg mountain gained importance in the 1950s as a winter sports area with its challenging standard run, comprising the Erlenhang and Glaslhang, which lead down to the formidable "Kanonenrohr" (cannon's muzzle), and the 5.4-km Moosabfahrt ski run, which is perfect for less experienced skiers.

Today, Germany's longest natural sledding run is the main attraction on Wallberg mountain, while the ungroomed standard run is an insider's tip for ski mountaineers and free-riders. In summer, the mountain's unparalleled view of the Tegernsee lake and surrounding mountainscape makes it a popular destination with hikers, and its usually excellent thermal lift has allowed the mountain to gain a reputation as an Eldorado for paragliders and hang-gliders.
