The Wallberg

Thanks to its unique location, the 1,722-meter high Wallberg is one of the most heavily frequented peaks in the Mangfall mountains and one of the most popular recreational destinations in Bavaria. And with good reason. Namely, the Tegernsee valley lies at the foot of  Wallberg mountain. The spectacular view not only extends into the Bavarian Alps but also, first and foremost, into the Tegernsee valley, where mountains, air and water merge to create a picture-postcard perfect idyll. And where sail boats and yachts abound in summer and a glittering white blanket of snow covers the mountains and the valley in winter.

From Rottach-Egern, the Wallberg cable car will take you up to the Wallberg plateau at an altitude of 1,620 m quickly and comfortably. It is then just a few hundred meters to the  Wallberg "Kircherl" (chapel), the popular mountain's more than 100-year-old landmark.

Hikers and other visitors can relax on the sun terrace or in the light-filled rooms of the Panorama Restaurant and enjoy the view. Paragliders and hang gliders do as the native golden eagle does and make use of the usually excellent thermal lift that will take them soaring over long distances. With a little bit of luck,  a golden eagle might be spotted circling above.

In winter, the Wallberg entices with one of Germany's longest natural winter sledding runs. The challenging descent that takes sledders down to the valley, whooping with glee, is over 6 kilometers long.
