Penzberg Beach Festival on the Wallberg

Sunday, 6 December / 1.00 pm

On Sunday, 6 December, we’re looking forward to a visit from the Penzberger Beaschdn on the Wallberg. Spectators are very welcome.

The performance is scheduled for around 1.00 pm on the Wallberg Plateau. So, if you’re taking the cable car up, set off from the valley at around 12.30 pm. The cable car journey takes about 15 minutes. You can find information about our opening hours here.

In 1984, Max J. Gruber from Penzberg revived the almost forgotten custom of ‘Oklopf’n’ – known as ‘Beaschdl’n’ in the Penzberg dialect – and founded the Penzberger Beaschd’n e.V. Inspired by ancient legends and the tales of former miners, Gruber carved around 289 impressive wooden masks – known as ‘Larven’ – from lime and poplar wood. Each mask tells its own story.
Figures from the mountains and moors
Alongside classic Perchten such as devils, witches, ugly creatures and beauties, two special groups characterise the procession:
Bergmandl – guardian spirits of the Penzberg mines
Mooskoppen – mysterious creatures from the moors
At the centre is Frau Perchta, a mystical figure straddling light and darkness, good and evil.

We look forward to the mystical performance by the Penzberg Beaschdn on the Wallberg – fire show included!

The performance lasts approx. 30 minutes.
Good to know:
